U4S for universities

U4S publishes what it has read from institutions’ own official pages. If something is wrong, a representative can tell us and point us at the source. Here is exactly what that gets you, and what it does not.

What an institution can do

  • Claim your profile. A named person at the institution asks for access. A U4S reviewer checks it manually against evidence the institution itself publishes. Nothing is approved automatically, and an institutional email address on its own is never enough.
  • Propose corrections. Point us at the official page that says otherwise. A U4S editor reads it and makes the change in U4S’s own repository — which is what the public site is built from. An approved proposal is a queued editorial task, not a change to the page.
  • Keep programme and source links current. A moved catalogue or a renamed programme is the single most common thing U4S gets wrong, and the single easiest thing for an institution to fix.
  • See what U4S has and has not established about your institution — which areas have been read from an official source, which have not, and what would move each one forward. That describes U4S’s own work rather than your institution.
  • See interaction signals, where U4S has them. Demand reporting is not available yet for this institution. That means U4S is not showing interaction signals here — not that nobody is interested. No sample or placeholder figure is shown in place of data U4S does not have.

What the numbers are

U4S interaction signals describe activity on University4Students. They are not enrollment data, market share, or population-level demand estimates.

U4S stores no identifier for anybody who reads it — no cookie, no device id, no session. That is why there is no unique-visitor figure anywhere: it cannot be measured, and an estimate would be modelled rather than counted. Small counts are shown as “Insufficient data” rather than as a number, because a count that small is noise and reads as a trend. No institution ever sees another institution’s figures.

Access, capability by capability

Being an approved representative earns 2 of these. The rest a U4S editor grants deliberately, with a reason recorded, and can withdraw. None of them is a purchase.

What U4S does not sell

U4S sells no position, no ordering and no editorial treatment. Nothing an institution does — claiming a profile, correcting it, being verified, or any future commercial arrangement — changes where it appears for a reader or what U4S says about it. These capabilities govern what an institution can SEE about itself and propose to U4S, and nothing else.

  • A position in any ranking. U4S publishes no ranking, and there is nothing to buy a place in.
  • A change to the order institutions appear in. Listings are ordered by the criteria a reader chose, and no arrangement with U4S alters that for anybody.
  • A judgement in U4S’s own words about the institution. U4S describes what it has read from official sources and does not write verdicts to order.
  • A verification decision. Whether a representative is verified is decided by a reviewer against evidence, and no entitlement reaches that decision.
  • Removal of a disclaimer, a review-status line or a data caveat. Those exist for the reader, and an institution is not who they are for.

About verification

Where a representative has been verified, the institution’s page can carry the line “Institution representative verified by U4S”. It is about the person, not the university. It does not mean that the university is accredited — U4S does not accredit anything, and accreditation is decided by national bodies, and it does not mean that U4S endorses or recommends this institution.

U4S has verified no institution representatives so far, so no page currently carries that line.

Start with a claim

Everything above begins with a claim that a person reviews.
