Hasselt University

A practical starting point for an application here, written for students and for parents. It lists what has to be established before a decision can sensibly be made, and sends each item to the office that can settle it.

Next verification step

Tuition was not published for this institution. Open the institution’s own fee pages and check which authority sets the amount shown, which student categories it covers, and whether the page states the academic year. Publish nothing unless the page itself states the amount, the currency, the academic year, the study level, the student category and the period it covers.

Student life context

Student life is less a property of an institution than a product of a timetable. How many days a week you are expected somewhere, how tightly your subject groups people together, how long the journey is between where you sleep and where you are taught, and how much of the year is taken up by assessment all shape what an ordinary week feels like. Those answers differ between programmes at the same place, which is why they are worth asking about your own.

Put the question to the student services office in its concrete form. How are sport, societies and volunteering organised, do they run across the institution or within a faculty, and what does joining one involve for somebody who arrives knowing nobody. The wider picture of student life is useful mainly as a way of knowing which questions are standard, so that an unusual answer stands out as something to follow up rather than something to accept.

One more distinction saves confusion later: the difference between what the institution provides and what student-run organisations provide alongside it. The two can look identical from outside while being run by entirely different people, with different ways in and different people to ask when something goes wrong. It is a short question to put to the student services office, and it saves a good deal of knocking on the wrong door.

Housing considerations

Arranging somewhere to live is the item most worth doing early, and the first question is structural rather than financial. Does the institution operate accommodation itself, or does it mostly direct students to the private market. If it does operate accommodation, how are places allocated, in what order, and does anything have to be settled about your place on a programme before a room can even be requested. The accommodation office is the authority on all of that.

Renting privately changes the questions rather than the difficulty. Establish whose name the agreement is in, what has to be produced before it can be signed, how any deposit is looked after and what has to happen for its return, which charges sit outside the rent, and whether the arrangement can be made before you are in the country. The housing section covers those mechanics in general terms. Costs that only appear after the move are their own subject, and splitting bills with flatmates goes through them.

The case for starting early is not that rooms run out but that choice does. Whatever is arranged last tends to be whatever nobody else took, and that single decision goes on to set the daily journey and the monthly outgoings for the rest of the year. Ask the accommodation office when its own process opens and what it needs from you at each stage, then build your own timetable around those dates rather than around your travel plans.

International student considerations

Arriving from another country adds categories rather than difficulty, and naming them early keeps them from arriving all at once. How the qualifications you already hold are assessed here. Which language your programme is taught in, and what evidence of that language the institution asks for. Which language the administration around your studies is conducted in, which is a separate question worth asking directly. Permission to enter and remain, which is a matter for the relevant official authority. Health cover. And the everyday registration that follows an arrival anywhere.

The international office is the institution's voice on qualifications, language and enrolment. The relevant official authority is the only voice that counts on entry and residence, and no summary, including this one, can stand in for it. Where health cover sits varies from place to place, so ask both offices rather than choosing on the basis of what you expect. The study-abroad section deals with the shape of the process rather than with any country's arrangements.

Admissions

Rather than looking for requirements, start by working out which route through admissions is yours. It depends on the programme, on the level of study, and on the category of applicant the institution places you in, and a single institution can run several routes that share almost nothing with each other. Once you know which one applies, most of what you read elsewhere becomes irrelevant, which is a relief rather than a loss.

From there, the institution's own admissions pages and the office behind them are the only source worth acting on. Ask in writing, keep the replies, and re-read the live page before any step that is sensitive to timing, because these pages are revised by the institution on its own schedule and not on yours. It is also worth asking what happens after submission: how decisions are communicated, what the wording of an outcome means in practice, and who to contact if something in your file needs explaining.

Tuition and fees

You will not find a fee figure on this page. U4S publishes an amount only where it has been read from an institution's own fee pages together with the category, the level and the academic year it belongs to, and where any of that is missing the honest position is to say nothing rather than to estimate. Once it sits on a page, an unchecked number is indistinguishable from a checked one, and the reader who carries the cost of that is the one budgeting around it.

Two things in particular are worth confirming rather than assuming, in either direction. It may be that the figure is fixed somewhere above the institution rather than by the institution itself, and it may be that it varies with the category an applicant is placed in. Both of those change which published page is the one that governs your situation, so ask plainly which body sets the amount that would apply to you, and which category you have been placed in. Questions worth settling before any payment covers what else to establish before money moves.

The number to work from is the one the institution publishes itself, checked against the programme you would join, the category you fall under and the academic year in question, and confirmed with whichever office maintains those pages. How to check an official fee page describes what to record while you are there, so that you can tell later whether anything has changed.

Required documents

Intake and deadlines
Not reviewed. U4S publishes no deadline without the intake it belongs to, and has not read this page’s dates.

Entry requirements change between intakes and differ by programme, by the qualification you hold and by where you are applying from. U4S records where the official requirements are published and when that page was last retrieved — nothing more. Students should verify current requirements on the official admissions page before relying on anything.

Next verification step

Open the official admissions page and record, only where it states them explicitly: the intake it applies to, the deadlines with their years, and the applicant categories it covers. U4S records no grade, test score or acceptance rate at any point.

What the institution asks for

Read from the institution’s own admissions pages, in the institution’s own words and units. U4S does not decide whether anyone meets any of it.

U4S never converts between grading systems or between language tests. A GPA is not a percentage, a UK classification is not a German Note, and an IELTS band is not a TOEFL score — institutions decide what they accept, and only the institution’s own published threshold governs an application. Everything below is recorded in the units the institution itself used.

Academic threshold

A grade the institution states, on its own scale. U4S does not convert between grading systems.

Requirements marked as institution-wide were read from a page that covers more than this programme. They are what the institution publishes for applicants generally, and the programme’s own requirements may differ.

Everything above is a partial reading of one page. The official admissions page is the only complete statement of what this institution asks for: https://www.uhasselt.be/en/study/application-and-admission/application-process

Housing

Source located

This is about housing the institution itself runs. It says nothing about private rentals near the campus, which are a different market with different contracts, different prices and different consequences if something goes wrong.

Housing application
Not located. Apply through the accommodation page above.
Does the institution manage housing itself?
Yes — the institution states it manages housing
Is housing guaranteed?
Not reviewed. U4S states no guarantee unless the institution has stated one in writing, because a student would plan a move around it.
Residence types
Studio
Application period
Not reviewed. U4S publishes no housing deadline without the year it belongs to.
Cost
Not reviewed. U4S publishes no rent figure without a currency, a period, a cycle and what it covers.
Deposit
Not reviewed. A deposit is not rent, and U4S records one only where the institution states it separately.
Private renting
U4S has not recorded whether this page covers private renting. Private accommodation is not university-managed housing, and U4S lists no private landlords or agencies.

Where a line reads “not reviewed”, U4S has not retrieved an official page stating it. That is a gap in U4S — it is never a statement that an institution has no housing, offers no guarantee, or has nothing available.

Next verification step

Confirm on the official accommodation page that what is recorded here still reads the same way, and record the application period with its year when the institution publishes it.

Official student support

Offices U4S has located on this institution’s own site. That an institution has a service means its website says so. It does not mean the service has capacity, answers quickly, can help with a particular problem, or that anybody found it useful. U4S measures none of those and publishes no rating of any service.

  • InternationalThe office that deals with applicants and students from abroad. · page located, not fully confirmed

U4S links to an institution’s own page or contact form and publishes no email address. A list of institutional addresses is a list for anybody who wants one, and a contact form routes a student’s question better than a shared inbox.

If somebody is in immediate danger, use the local emergency number rather than any service listed here. U4S has not verified a single institution’s emergency contact, and a partly-verified one is worse than none.

Programmes

U4S has not read a programme catalogue for this institution. That is a gap in U4S, not a statement about what the institution offers — check its own website for the programmes it runs.
