Johannes Kepler University Linz
A page about questions rather than answers: what someone considering this university would still need to establish, and who can tell them. U4S is independent of the institution and speaks only for itself.

Next verification step
Tuition was not published for this institution. Open the institution’s own fee pages and check whether a per-semester amount is stated, which student categories it applies to, and whether the student body contribution is listed separately from tuition. Publish nothing unless the page itself states the amount, the currency, the academic year, the study level, the student category and the period it covers.
Student life context
Student life is a phrase that covers several unrelated things, and it is easier to plan for when they are taken apart. There is the taught week, which the programme sets. There is the rest of the day, which depends on where you live and how far that is from where you study. There is company, which nobody can arrange for you in advance but which an institution can make easier or harder to find. Each part has a different source of information behind it.
For the taught week, ask whoever runs the programme how teaching is delivered, how much of the timetable is fixed, when the year is busy, and how much independent study is assumed between sessions. For support, ask student services what exists in the way of study help, language help, disability provision and pastoral contact, and how a student is expected to make first contact rather than what is available in principle.
For company, expect it to take a while and plan accordingly. Clubs, sport, volunteering and student media may run through the university, through student organisations or through the surrounding city, and how a person joins differs in each case. Building a circle from nothing is a slower business than most people expect, which is an argument for putting the practical arrangements in place before the term when you need them.
Housing considerations
Most of what matters follows from who provides student housing here and when the process opens. Ask the accommodation or student services office whether the university operates rooms itself, whether it allocates a limited stock to particular groups, whether it signposts private providers, or whether it expects students to arrange everything independently. Then ask when applications open and in what order places are given out, and plan from that calendar rather than from your own.
If the answer points you towards the private market, slow down over the paperwork. Establish who the agreement is with, what is wanted at signing, how a deposit is held and returned, what is billed separately from the rent, and whether any of it can be arranged before you arrive in the country. The way student accommodation is usually organised gives you the questions, and the accommodation office tells you which of them apply here. Nobody should transfer money for a room that has not been seen by someone they trust.
International student considerations
For an applicant arriving from elsewhere, the work divides into what the university decides and what it does not. It decides how your previous study is looked at, what evidence of language it expects and how enrolment proceeds. It does not decide whether you may enter the country, remain in it or work while studying; those belong to the official authority responsible for them, and its answer is the only binding one.
Health cover, local registration and everyday banking fall between the two. The international office often knows how arriving students have handled them and can name the body that decides, but its account is a description rather than an authority. Ask both, and act on the official version. Work alongside study is worth reading in the same spirit, because whether it is open to you at all is a question for the authority rather than for a university and certainly not for this page.
A habit worth adopting from the start: write your own circumstances out in full before you ask anything, including where you studied, in which language, at what level, and on what basis you would be travelling. Send that description rather than a general question, keep every reply, and note its date. It is slower at the beginning and considerably faster afterwards, and it leaves you with a record when somebody asks what you were told.
Admissions
How to find what applies to you is a more useful question than what applies, because the second has no general answer. Processes at a single institution are not uniform across it, and they are revised by the people who run them. So begin by identifying the exact programme and the exact route that fits your situation, and read the official material for that route rather than any overview of the institution.
Then close the gaps directly. Send the admissions office the parts you have had to interpret, described in terms of your own background, and keep what comes back. Ask who owns each stage, how outcomes are communicated and who to contact when a case is unusual. What U4S will and will not publish explains why this page routes you to that office instead of summarising it, since a summary of a moving process is a liability dressed up as a convenience.
Tuition and fees
There is no fee figure on this page. That is a standing policy rather than a gap in the research: U4S states an amount only where it has read that amount on the institution's own fee page and recorded the study level, the student category, the currency and the academic period it belongs to. Anything less is a figure without a meaning, and a figure without a meaning is worse than a blank space, because it looks like an answer.
When you read the official page yourself, read the wording as carefully as the amount. What is shown may apply to a semester rather than to a full academic year, and contributions may be listed separately beside it rather than being included in it. Whether either is the case here is not something this page will guess at; it is something the page itself, or the office behind it, should state plainly.
Beyond the amount there are things worth settling in advance: what a payment includes, what is billed separately, and what happens if plans change partway through. Questions to put before any money moves covers that ground. Take the figure itself from the institution's own fee pages, for your programme, your applicant category and the academic year in which you would actually start.
Admissions
U4S has not located an official admissions source here. That is a gap in U4S, not a statement that there are no requirements — every institution has them, and they are on its own site.
Housing
Source locatedThis is about housing the institution itself runs. It says nothing about private rentals near the campus, which are a different market with different contracts, different prices and different consequences if something goes wrong.

- Housing application
- Not located. Apply through the accommodation page above.
- Does the institution manage housing itself?
- Not reviewed. Locating an accommodation page does not establish this — some such pages exist mainly to explain that the institution does not.
- Is housing guaranteed?
- Not reviewed. U4S states no guarantee unless the institution has stated one in writing, because a student would plan a move around it.
- Residence types
- Dormitory
- Application period
- Not reviewed. U4S publishes no housing deadline without the year it belongs to.
- Cost
- Not reviewed. U4S publishes no rent figure without a currency, a period, a cycle and what it covers.
- Deposit
- Not reviewed. A deposit is not rent, and U4S records one only where the institution states it separately.
- Private renting
- U4S has not recorded whether this page covers private renting. Private accommodation is not university-managed housing, and U4S lists no private landlords or agencies.
Where a line reads “not reviewed”, U4S has not retrieved an official page stating it. That is a gap in U4S — it is never a statement that an institution has no housing, offers no guarantee, or has nothing available.
Next verification step
Confirm on the official accommodation page that what is recorded here still reads the same way, and record the application period with its year when the institution publishes it.

Official student support
Offices U4S has located on this institution’s own site. That an institution has a service means its website says so. It does not mean the service has capacity, answers quickly, can help with a particular problem, or that anybody found it useful. U4S measures none of those and publishes no rating of any service.
- Research and International AffairsThe office that deals with applicants and students from abroad. · page retrieved and confirmed · contact form
U4S links to an institution’s own page or contact form and publishes no email address. A list of institutional addresses is a list for anybody who wants one, and a contact form routes a student’s question better than a shared inbox.
If somebody is in immediate danger, use the local emergency number rather than any service listed here. U4S has not verified a single institution’s emergency contact, and a partly-verified one is worse than none.
Programmes
U4S has not read a programme catalogue for this institution. That is a gap in U4S, not a statement about what the institution offers — check its own website for the programmes it runs.
