Maastricht University
A place to work out what to ask rather than a description of the university. Each question here points at the office or the authority that can answer it for your own circumstances, and none of it speaks for the institution.

What U4S has verified
Partly reviewedThe official website was retrieved and the page confirmed the institution. Everything else on this page is orientation unless marked otherwise below.
- Tuition and fees
- Only the figures shown below have been checked against the institution’s own pages.
- Admissions
- U4S publishes no entry requirement, deadline or grade for any institution.
- Scholarships and support
- U4S names no funding scheme and states no eligibility.
Next verification step
Tuition is published and reviewed for the stated academic year. Re-read at the start of the next academic year and check whether the banded institutional rates or the listed programme exceptions have changed.
Student life context
Student life is easier to research than it looks, provided the question is put concretely. Rather than asking what a place is like, ask how a week is built: when teaching happens, how large a teaching group tends to be, how much of the work is collaborative, how assessment is spread across the year, and how far apart the places you are expected to be turn out to be. Those are answerable questions, and the answers differ between programmes at a single institution far more than most people expect before they arrive.
The second layer is everything the timetable does not account for. Establish which activities are run by the institution, which by student associations setting their own terms, and which by organisations in the surrounding city that admit students without any formal link. Whom you ask depends on that answer. The general anatomy of a student week is a fair starting frame, but the specifics belong to the student services office and to whatever student representative body exists.
The third thing is support, and it is the one most worth settling before it is needed. Ask what academic support, wellbeing provision and disability support exist, who is entitled to use them, whether they are reached centrally or through a department, and how a student makes first contact. A service that is hard to find is a service that goes unused. Looking after yourself while studying is general reading, and what exists at this institution is a question for the institution.
Housing considerations
Two housing problems tend to get confused: where you sleep in the opening days, and where you live for the rest of the academic period. They are solved differently and on different timetables. Establish what part the institution plays in either, whether it allocates rooms directly, holds a limited stock for particular groups, publishes a list of providers and stops there, or leaves accommodation to the student entirely. Only the housing or accommodation office can say which description fits, and asking early costs nothing while asking late closes options.
If private renting is the route, the questions are the same everywhere even though the market is not: what an agreement commits you to and for how long, what is included and what is billed separately, how a deposit is held and what returns it, what notice applies, and what documentation is asked of a tenant. Renting sight unseen from another country removes checks that renting in person supplies for nothing, which is why arranging a room from abroad deserves a sequence rather than improvisation. Nobody should be paid before you can confirm what you are renting and from whom.
International student considerations
Coming from another country turns one decision into several parallel ones, each owned by a different body. The institution decides whether prior study is recognised for the programme in question and what evidence of language it wants to see. The language of instruction and the language of day-to-day administration are questions about your specific programme and the offices you will deal with, and they are worth confirming separately rather than assuming. The relevant official authority of the destination country, and not the university, decides entry, residence and permission to study, and only that authority can speak to your own case.
Health cover, registration after arrival, banking and the institution's own documentation form further categories, each with its own holder and its own timing. The international student office can normally map which of them apply to a given applicant and in what order they are usually handled, which is the most useful thing anybody can do for you at this stage. Ask in writing, describe your own situation, keep the dates, and treat anything from a forum or a commercial intermediary as something to verify rather than something to act on. The adjustment that follows arrival is a separate matter again, and a normal one rather than a sign that a mistake has been made.
Admissions
There are no requirements on this page, and the reason goes beyond caution. What an institution asks of an applicant depends on the level, the programme, the qualification and the system that awarded it, and it is revised as those things change. A copy held anywhere other than the institution's own pages goes out of date silently, and the reader relying on it usually finds out at the least convenient moment.
The reliable method is narrow rather than broad. Start from the institution's own admissions material, find the exact programme at the exact level, and read what is published for applicants in your situation rather than the general summary. Check whether separate material exists for qualifications awarded in another education system. Note what the pages leave unresolved instead of trying to infer it.
Then ask. Send the unresolved points to the admissions office in writing, describing your own circumstances rather than a general case, and keep the reply together with the date it arrived. If an agency or a comparison site says something the official pages do not, the official pages are the ones that count, and the office will confirm the point if asked. A dated answer from the body that makes the decision is the only form of certainty available at this stage, and it is worth the effort of collecting.
Tuition and fees
No fee figure appears here, and none is implied. U4S publishes an amount only when it has been read directly from the institution's own fee pages and recorded alongside the category, the level and the period it applies to, and that check has not been carried out for this institution. Publishing nothing is the honest position where an estimate would be indistinguishable, on the page, from a verified figure.
One caution is worth carrying into the search. More than one rate may be published for the same programme, and where that is so, which of them applies depends on the category the institution places a student in rather than on the programme chosen. That placement is the institution's own assessment, made against its own criteria, so it cannot be predicted from outside and should be confirmed rather than assumed. The questions worth asking before any payment cover what to establish first. The amounts themselves belong on the institution's fee pages for the relevant academic year, and its admissions or student finance office can settle whatever those pages leave open.

Admissions
The institution’s own general admissions page. A particular programme may set requirements of its own, which this does not cover.
- Official admissions page
- www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/study/admission-enrolment
- Application portal
- Not located. Apply through the admissions page above.
- Language requirements
- Not located. U4S records no language-test threshold for any programme, anywhere.
- Required documents
- Not located.
- Intake and deadlines
- Not reviewed. U4S publishes no deadline without the intake it belongs to, and has not read this page’s dates.
Entry requirements change between intakes and differ by programme, by the qualification you hold and by where you are applying from. U4S records where the official requirements are published and when that page was last retrieved — nothing more. Students should verify current requirements on the official admissions page before relying on anything.
Next verification step
Open the official admissions page and record, only where it states them explicitly: the intake it applies to, the deadlines with their years, and the applicant categories it covers. U4S records no grade, test score or acceptance rate at any point.

Housing
Source locatedThis is about housing the institution itself runs. It says nothing about private rentals near the campus, which are a different market with different contracts, different prices and different consequences if something goes wrong.
- Official accommodation page
- www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/study/student-life/housing-heerlen
- Housing application
- Not located. Apply through the accommodation page above.
- Does the institution manage housing itself?
- Not reviewed. Locating an accommodation page does not establish this — some such pages exist mainly to explain that the institution does not.
- Is housing guaranteed?
- Not reviewed. U4S states no guarantee unless the institution has stated one in writing, because a student would plan a move around it.
- Residence types
- Studio
- Application period
- Not reviewed. U4S publishes no housing deadline without the year it belongs to.
- Cost
- Not reviewed. U4S publishes no rent figure without a currency, a period, a cycle and what it covers.
- Deposit
- Not reviewed. A deposit is not rent, and U4S records one only where the institution states it separately.
- Private renting
- U4S has not recorded whether this page covers private renting. Private accommodation is not university-managed housing, and U4S lists no private landlords or agencies.
Where a line reads “not reviewed”, U4S has not retrieved an official page stating it. That is a gap in U4S — it is never a statement that an institution has no housing, offers no guarantee, or has nothing available.
Next verification step
Confirm on the official accommodation page that what is recorded here still reads the same way, and record the application period with its year when the institution publishes it.
