RMIT University

An orientation page, written for people at the deciding stage. It sets out what still has to be checked with the institution itself, and which office to check it with.

Next verification step

Tuition was not published for this institution. Open the institution’s own fee pages and check whether an amount is quoted per year or per unit of study, and which student category it applies to, since those change what a total means. Publish nothing unless the page itself states the amount, the currency, the academic year or intake, the study level, the student category and the period it covers, and unless each amount can be tied to the row it belongs to.

Student life context

Student life is largely a function of the timetable, and the timetable belongs to the course rather than to the institution. How many hours are scheduled, how they are distributed across the week, how much of the work is practical, how much is independent, whether placements or projects interrupt the pattern, and when assessment falls: those decide what an ordinary week feels like, and they can differ sharply between students who describe themselves as attending the same place.

The discretionary part takes more effort to establish, because nobody publishes it as a schedule. Ask the students' representative body what it runs and when it takes newcomers, whether groups stay open to students arriving partway through a cycle, and what is realistically available to someone travelling in rather than living close by. Ask in the same conversation where academic, wellbeing and disability support sit, and how first contact is made. The general shape of student life covers what tends to matter once teaching begins.

Housing considerations

Settle these before any search starts: whether the institution provides accommodation at all, and what it advises applicants it cannot house. Those answers determine whether you are choosing between allocated rooms or entering an open market, and they are held by the accommodation office rather than inferred from a prospectus. Ask also whether applying for a room is a separate process from applying to study, and what the timing between them is.

In an open market the checks are unglamorous and worth doing anyway. Establish that the property and the person offering it are real before any payment. Read the agreement, and know what is paid in advance, what is refundable and on what terms, how long it binds you, and what happens over periods when teaching stops. Early beats thorough here, because a rushed decision made from a distance can take a full agreement to escape. The types of student housing describes the categories, whose day-to-day realities differ more than the labels suggest.

International student considerations

Sort the questions by who answers them, because that is what saves time. The university decides whether prior study is recognised and at what level, what a course requires by way of language, and what an application needs to include. The course decides how it is taught and assessed. The official authorities of the destination country decide entry, stay and any permission to work, and they are the only source worth relying on for any of it.

Then there is the category question, which sits underneath most of the others. Institutions place applicants into categories for the purposes of admission and of fees, and those categories are not always what an applicant assumes from nationality alone. Establish which one this institution places you in before drawing any conclusion from anything you read, because the same page can mean different things to different readers.

The international student office is the place to put all of that, and early is better than exhaustive, since the strands interact. Where a course or its administration may involve more than one language, ask about your own programme specifically. Working with language in a new setting deals with the everyday side of that. The sequencing of everything else is covered in preparing before departure.

Admissions

There are no entry requirements on this page. Not a grade, not a test, not a closing date, not a rate. Requirements are set and revised by the offices that apply them, and any second-hand version begins ageing the moment it is written down, which is a poor foundation for a decision of this size.

The reliable method is to narrow, then read. Establish the level you would enter at, the exact course, and the category the institution places your qualifications and circumstances in. Read the admissions material attached to that combination rather than the general overview, which is written for everybody and therefore for nobody in particular.

Then write to the admissions office with your own situation described plainly, and keep what they tell you with a date attached. If a third-party source and the institution's own pages disagree, the institution's pages are the ones that count, including against this one. How this site is compiled sets out that order of precedence.

Tuition and fees

No fee figure appears on this page, for this institution or for any other, because a figure without its labels is not information. Amounts depend on the course, the level, the year of entry and the category a student is placed in, and any one of those can change what a reader should conclude. The institution publishes its own with those labels attached.

Some possibilities are worth checking rather than assuming either way. An amount may be quoted per unit of study rather than per year, which changes entirely what a total means and leaves published figures incomparable until the basis of each is known. Whether a student is charged at all may depend on the category they fall into. Confirm both for your own case on the institution's fee pages for the year in which you would enrol, and ask its fees or admissions office about anything those pages leave unstated. How tuition fees are structured explains the vocabulary you will meet there.

Admissions

Institution-wide admissions pageSource located

The institution’s own general admissions page. A particular programme may set requirements of its own, which this does not cover.

Application portal
Not located. Apply through the admissions page above.
Language requirements
Not located. U4S records no language-test threshold for any programme, anywhere.
Required documents
Not located.
Intake and deadlines
Not reviewed. U4S publishes no deadline without the intake it belongs to, and has not read this page’s dates.

Entry requirements change between intakes and differ by programme, by the qualification you hold and by where you are applying from. U4S records where the official requirements are published and when that page was last retrieved — nothing more. Students should verify current requirements on the official admissions page before relying on anything.

Next verification step

Open the official admissions page and record, only where it states them explicitly: the intake it applies to, the deadlines with their years, and the applicant categories it covers. U4S records no grade, test score or acceptance rate at any point.

What the institution asks for

Read from the institution’s own admissions pages, in the institution’s own words and units. U4S does not decide whether anyone meets any of it.

U4S never converts between grading systems or between language tests. A GPA is not a percentage, a UK classification is not a German Note, and an IELTS band is not a TOEFL score — institutions decide what they accept, and only the institution’s own published threshold governs an application. Everything below is recorded in the units the institution itself used.

Requirements marked as institution-wide were read from a page that covers more than this programme. They are what the institution publishes for applicants generally, and the programme’s own requirements may differ.

Everything above is a partial reading of one page. The official admissions page is the only complete statement of what this institution asks for: https://www.rmit.edu.au/study-with-us/applying-to-rmit

Housing

U4S has not located an official accommodation page for RMIT University. That is a gap in U4S — it is not a statement that the institution has no housing, and it should not be read as one.

This is about housing the institution itself runs. It says nothing about private rentals near the campus, which are a different market with different contracts, different prices and different consequences if something goes wrong.

Official student support

Offices U4S has located on this institution’s own site. That an institution has a service means its website says so. It does not mean the service has capacity, answers quickly, can help with a particular problem, or that anybody found it useful. U4S measures none of those and publishes no rating of any service.

U4S links to an institution’s own page or contact form and publishes no email address. A list of institutional addresses is a list for anybody who wants one, and a contact form routes a student’s question better than a shared inbox.

If somebody is in immediate danger, use the local emergency number rather than any service listed here. U4S has not verified a single institution’s emergency contact, and a partly-verified one is worse than none.

Programmes

U4S has not read a programme catalogue for this institution. That is a gap in U4S, not a statement about what the institution offers — check its own website for the programmes it runs.
