The University of Manchester
A neutral starting point for a student or a parent looking at this institution: the things worth working out in advance, and the offices that actually decide them. No costs, criteria or judgements are published here.

What U4S has verified
OrientationThe official website was retrieved and the page confirmed the institution. Everything else on this page is orientation unless marked otherwise below.
- Tuition and fees
- No figure is published on this page.
- Admissions
- U4S publishes no entry requirement, deadline or grade for any institution.
- Scholarships and support
- U4S names no funding scheme and states no eligibility.
Next verification step
Tuition was not published for this institution. United Kingdom fee pages commonly separate a capped home rate from programme-dependent international rates, and often render the tables client-side so no amount appears in the retrieved page. Open the institution’s fee schedule for the relevant academic year and check for a figure stating the year, study level and fee status.
Student life context
What is student life actually made of? Mostly a timetable, the distance between where you sleep and where you study, the people you end up spending unstructured hours with, and how easy it is to find help when something goes wrong. None of that is fixed by an institution's name. It is set by the programme you join, the stage you are at, and choices made in the early weeks, which is why this page describes none of it.
So the useful questions are small. How much of the week is contact time on your programme, and how much is independent work? What runs outside teaching, and how do students actually join in rather than merely read about it? Where do students go when they need academic help, and where do they go when the difficulty is not academic at all? The students' union and student services publish their own answers, and those are the answers that apply. The general shape of building a life around study is covered in the community section.
Some things are worth planning rather than leaving to chance: how you will meet people outside your immediate cohort, and how you will keep part of the week for yourself. A student who already knows which door to knock on when things get difficult does not have to work that out under pressure. What exists here, and how it is reached, is for the institution's own services to say.
Housing considerations
Accommodation deserves attention earlier than most applicants give it, for a structural reason: housing runs on a cycle of its own, and that cycle does not wait for anyone's admission outcome. Establish what the institution offers directly, whether you apply for it separately, who is given priority, how long an agreement runs, what it includes, and what the arrangement is for the periods when teaching is not running. Institution-run housing has its own office and its own published process. Orientation on what shared living usually involves is in the section on halls and shared living.
If you rent privately instead, the questions change, because you are dealing with a market the university does not run. What is usually asked of a student before an agreement is signed, what is refundable, who is liable when a flatmate leaves, and where can an agreement be looked over before you commit? Ask the accommodation office what support it offers for private renting, since many institutions advise on it even where the property is nothing to do with them. A general method for the search is in finding student housing abroad.
International student considerations
Arriving from another country adds categories rather than difficulty, and they become manageable once they are named. Academic: how qualifications from your own education system are read here, and by whom. Language: which language teaching and administration run in, and what evidence the institution expects. Official permissions: entry and study permission, which the relevant national authority decides on its own terms, not the university and certainly not this page. Practical: health cover, insurance, banking, registration after arrival, and the order in which those happen.
Each of those categories has an owner. The international student office is the natural first contact for the academic and practical ones, and it usually knows which official body owns the rest; where it does not, it will say so. Treat general information found anywhere, this page included, as a prompt for a question rather than as an answer, and confirm directly anything that would change your plans. Broader orientation on moving country in order to study is in the study abroad section.
Admissions
This page states no entry criteria, because criteria belong to the institution and are applied to individual applications rather than to categories of applicant. To find what applies to you, start on the official website at the page for the specific programme and level you want, read what is published there in full, and notice what it does not cover as carefully as what it does. Requirements commonly vary between programmes inside the same institution, so the page for your programme is the page that answers your question.
Then ask. Admissions staff can address circumstances that published pages cannot anticipate, and a plainly described situation gets a more useful reply than a general enquiry. Ask about process as well: how applications are handled, what the stages are, how you would be contacted, and what to do if your circumstances change while an application is open. U4S is independent of this institution and has verified only the official website listed beside this profile; profiles gathered the same way are collected in the universities section.
Tuition and fees
No amount is published here, and the reason is worth understanding rather than working around. Fee schedules in the United Kingdom commonly present a rate for students of one fee status alongside programme-dependent rates for students of another, so the correct figure depends on both what you are studying and which status you are assessed as holding. That status follows residency and prior study rather than nationality alone, which is why it is determined rather than assumed, and why no third party can tell you which column you belong in.
These tables are also frequently rendered so that no amount can be retrieved from the page itself, which is one reason second-hand figures circulate and go stale. Go to the institution's own fee schedule for the intake you are applying for, then confirm with the office responsible what the rate covers, what is billed separately, and whether it is reviewed between stages of a programme. If the structure of these schedules is unfamiliar, how tuition fees are put together covers the general pattern without reference to any institution.

- Intake and deadlines
- Not reviewed. U4S publishes no deadline without the intake it belongs to, and has not read this page’s dates.
Entry requirements change between intakes and differ by programme, by the qualification you hold and by where you are applying from. U4S records where the official requirements are published and when that page was last retrieved — nothing more. Students should verify current requirements on the official admissions page before relying on anything.
Next verification step
Open the official admissions page and record, only where it states them explicitly: the intake it applies to, the deadlines with their years, and the applicant categories it covers. U4S records no grade, test score or acceptance rate at any point.

What the institution asks for
Read from the institution’s own admissions pages, in the institution’s own words and units. U4S does not decide whether anyone meets any of it.
U4S never converts between grading systems or between language tests. A GPA is not a percentage, a UK classification is not a German Note, and an IELTS band is not a TOEFL score — institutions decide what they accept, and only the institution’s own published threshold governs an application. Everything below is recorded in the units the institution itself used.
Prior qualification

Academic threshold
A grade the institution states, on its own scale. U4S does not convert between grading systems.
- Institution-wideStated, but more than one value applies
Applicants with a cumulative grade point average of 16/20 in the High School diploma will be considered for entry onto our Foundation Programme.
U4S records no single value here: the page names a grade point average without stating the scale it is on, and a GPA without its scale means nothing.

Language requirement
A language test the institution names, with its own threshold. U4S does not convert between tests.
- Institution-wideStated, but more than one value applies
We require all international applicants to have obtained a suitable English Language qualification equivalent to IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.5 in each component.
U4S records no single value here: the page states more than one IELTS threshold (4, 6.5), so which one governs this programme is for the institution to say.

- Institution-wideStated, but more than one value applies
The minimum IELTS score required to consider your application is 6.5 overall with no element below 6.0.
U4S records no single value here: the page states more than one IELTS threshold (6, 6.5), so which one governs this programme is for the institution to say.

We are also not able to accept a combination of two test scores or TOEFL 'MyBest' Scores - you must meet our minimum requirements in one sitting.

- Institution-wideStated, but more than one value applies
Candidates applying for programmes with an IELTS 7 (or higher) requirement will need to offer an alternative acceptable qualification or test.
U4S records no single value here: the page states more than one IELTS threshold (6, 6.5, 7, 8), so which one governs this programme is for the institution to say.

Requirements marked as institution-wide were read from a page that covers more than this programme. They are what the institution publishes for applicants generally, and the programme’s own requirements may differ.
Everything above is a partial reading of one page. The official admissions page is the only complete statement of what this institution asks for: https://www.manchester.ac.uk/study/international/admissions/
Housing
Source locatedThis is about housing the institution itself runs. It says nothing about private rentals near the campus, which are a different market with different contracts, different prices and different consequences if something goes wrong.

- Housing application

- Does the institution manage housing itself?
- Yes — the institution states it manages housing
- Is housing guaranteed?
- All new, full-time undergraduate and international postgraduate students are guaranteed the offer of a room in University halls of residence.
- Residence types
- Halls of residence
- Application period
- Not reviewed. U4S publishes no housing deadline without the year it belongs to.
- Cost
- Not reviewed. U4S publishes no rent figure without a currency, a period, a cycle and what it covers.
- Deposit
- Not reviewed. A deposit is not rent, and U4S records one only where the institution states it separately.
- Private renting
- U4S has not recorded whether this page covers private renting. Private accommodation is not university-managed housing, and U4S lists no private landlords or agencies.
Where a line reads “not reviewed”, U4S has not retrieved an official page stating it. That is a gap in U4S — it is never a statement that an institution has no housing, offers no guarantee, or has nothing available.
Next verification step
Confirm on the official accommodation page that what is recorded here still reads the same way, and record the application period with its year when the institution publishes it.
