University of Geneva

This page exists to help you work out what to ask and whom to ask. It describes the questions a student or a parent should put to the institution, and it states nothing about the university itself.

Next verification step

Tuition was not published for this institution. Swiss institutions commonly publish a clear per-semester amount, sometimes with a surcharge for students who completed their prior qualification abroad, but frequently without naming the academic year the amount applies to. Open the institution’s fee page and check whether a dated fee notice exists before recording any figure.

Student life context

Student life is easier to plan for if you stop treating it as a property of the university and start treating it as a product of a timetable. How much taught contact a programme carries, whether attendance is expected or merely assumed, how work is assessed and how that assessment is spread across the year, and whether students move through the programme as a group or separately: these shape a week far more than anything said about an institution as a whole.

The rest is built by students. Clubs, sport, faith groups, volunteering, course societies and student representation usually sit alongside the university rather than inside it, so put the question to the students' own organisations as well as to the student services office. Finding people to belong to describes how that generally happens for anyone arriving somewhere new; who runs what, here, is a question for the university and for the students already there.

Language deserves a direct question rather than an assumption. Ask which language your teaching and assessment use, and which language the administration around you (enrolment, accommodation, health cover) is conducted in. Those answers can differ from each other, and both are worth having before you arrive rather than afterwards. Handling a language gap covers the general skill; the specific answer belongs to the office that administers your programme.

Housing considerations

Accommodation is the part of a move most often left too late, and the cost of leaving it late is not only financial. Establish first whether the university offers housing at all, whether places are offered to some categories of student and not others, how an application is made and at what point in the process it is expected. The accommodation office is the only reliable source for that, and its answer sets everything else in motion.

If you are searching privately, treat it as a project rather than an errand. What student housing usually involves sets out the common arrangements and the vocabulary they are described in. Work out what a deposit secures and what returns it, what the sum you pay includes and what arrives as a separate bill, what notice either side can give, and what documents a landlord will want from somebody who is not yet resident.

A caution applies everywhere and is worth stating plainly. Pressure to pay quickly for a room you have not seen, from someone who will not meet you or verify who they are, is the pattern that costs students money. Slow the process down, ask for the agreement in writing, and use whatever verification the university's accommodation service can offer, even where it does not arrange the room itself.

International student considerations

Sort the work by who decides, because each decision has an owner and the owners do not speak for one another. The university decides how your prior study is recognised and how it establishes that you are equipped for the teaching. The official authority responsible for entry and residence decides whether and on what basis you may come and stay, and whether any work is permitted alongside study. Health cover, whatever local registration applies and access to banking are practical matters, but what applies to you can follow from the earlier decisions rather than sit apart from them.

Ask each owner directly and keep the reply. Start with the international office, both because it deals with these questions constantly and because it can tell you which of them are not its to answer. Treat timing as part of the substance: some steps cannot begin until an earlier step has concluded, and discovering that late is how a plan usually comes apart. The general shape of studying in another country gives you a sequence to check your own against, not the answers themselves.

Admissions

This page carries no entry requirements, no dates and no account of how applications are assessed. Those things vary by programme and by the system your qualifications come from, they are revised by the institution on its own schedule, and a copy held on a third-party page ages without any visible sign that it has aged. What governs is the institution's own admissions material, in whatever form it currently takes.

What to do instead is a short list. Name the programme exactly, since an institution can run different processes for different programmes and different levels of study. Read the material published for that programme, in its own words. Note what is ambiguous, and put those questions to the admissions office rather than to a forum. Ask for confirmation you can keep, and check the date on anything you are given.

It is worth saying plainly that U4S has no relationship with this institution, is not acting for it, and has not been asked by it to describe anything. The editorial standard behind this page explains what U4S will and will not state about an institution it has not verified in detail. The university's own pages remain the authority on everything in this section.

Tuition and fees

You will not find an amount here. That is not because the information is hard to obtain, but because of how it is usually presented. Institutions in this system tend to publish a clean per-semester charge, sometimes accompanied by a supplementary charge applying to students whose earlier qualification was obtained elsewhere. What is often absent is any statement of the academic year it applies to.

A charge without its year is not information a stranger can use. There is no way to tell, from the page alone, whether it reflects the current position or a version nobody has revisited, and a figure quoted onward carries that uncertainty invisibly. Leaving the space empty is the honest option, because a bare amount placed on a page like this would be read with more confidence than it has earned.

Go to the institution's own fee page and read it for your situation rather than for its headline. Check that an academic year is stated beside the charge, that the category of student it applies to is stated, and that any supplementary charge is explained rather than merely listed. Why different students are charged differently explains why that category can matter more than the sum itself.

Application portal
Not located. Apply through the admissions page above.
Language requirements
Not located. U4S records no language-test threshold for any programme, anywhere.
Required documents
Not located.
Intake and deadlines
Not reviewed. U4S publishes no deadline without the intake it belongs to, and has not read this page’s dates.

Entry requirements change between intakes and differ by programme, by the qualification you hold and by where you are applying from. U4S records where the official requirements are published and when that page was last retrieved — nothing more. Students should verify current requirements on the official admissions page before relying on anything.

Next verification step

Open the official admissions page and record, only where it states them explicitly: the intake it applies to, the deadlines with their years, and the applicant categories it covers. U4S records no grade, test score or acceptance rate at any point.

Housing

Source located

This is about housing the institution itself runs. It says nothing about private rentals near the campus, which are a different market with different contracts, different prices and different consequences if something goes wrong.

Housing application
Not located. Apply through the accommodation page above.
Does the institution manage housing itself?
Not reviewed. Locating an accommodation page does not establish this — some such pages exist mainly to explain that the institution does not.
Is housing guaranteed?
Not reviewed. U4S states no guarantee unless the institution has stated one in writing, because a student would plan a move around it.
Residence types
Not reviewed.
Application period
Not reviewed. U4S publishes no housing deadline without the year it belongs to.
Cost
Not reviewed. U4S publishes no rent figure without a currency, a period, a cycle and what it covers.
Deposit
Not reviewed. A deposit is not rent, and U4S records one only where the institution states it separately.
Private renting
U4S has not recorded whether this page covers private renting. Private accommodation is not university-managed housing, and U4S lists no private landlords or agencies.

Where a line reads “not reviewed”, U4S has not retrieved an official page stating it. That is a gap in U4S — it is never a statement that an institution has no housing, offers no guarantee, or has nothing available.

Next verification step

Open the official accommodation page and record, only where it states them explicitly: whether the institution manages housing itself, whether it offers any guarantee and in what words, the residence types it names, the application period with its year, and any cost with its currency, period and what it covers.

Official student support

Offices U4S has located on this institution’s own site. That an institution has a service means its website says so. It does not mean the service has capacity, answers quickly, can help with a particular problem, or that anybody found it useful. U4S measures none of those and publishes no rating of any service.

U4S links to an institution’s own page or contact form and publishes no email address. A list of institutional addresses is a list for anybody who wants one, and a contact form routes a student’s question better than a shared inbox.

If somebody is in immediate danger, use the local emergency number rather than any service listed here. U4S has not verified a single institution’s emergency contact, and a partly-verified one is worse than none.

Programmes

U4S has not read a programme catalogue for this institution. That is a gap in U4S, not a statement about what the institution offers — check its own website for the programmes it runs.
